Porthmeor Beach & Porthgwidden beachSt Ives

It's become a regular thing on a Sunday that we pop down to Porthmeor beach and walk along the long stretch of sand and have a paddle in the sea or rock pools. It's perfect for waring out the dog! You can then carry on walking up around the island admiring the ever changing colour of the sea. On the highest point of the island you will reach The Chapel of St Nicholas, named so as St Nicholas is the patron saint of sailors. You will also reach St Ives Watch Station. From this point you can look across to the Godrevy lighthouse and just generally take in and admire the panoramic sea view.
You wouldn't believe that I managed to buy a cookbook up here! Next to the watch station is what I can describe as a long narrow "cubby hole" with some book shelves and you can donate 50p for a book of your choice! Amazing!
You can then walk down the grassy hill onto Porthgwidden Beach which is a secluded beach of great charm. You will find a lovely seafood cafe there. There are also beach chalets which come with 2 deckchairs. You can book these beach "pods" online. There are 36 in total on two different levels. The pods are to store all your beach kit for the day/week. Please note that they are not for sleeping in. In July it looks as though they are around £60 per week but obviously this price will vary throughout the season.
